P 205 :: Syllabus

This course represents a synthesis of conceptual and technical skills acquired throughout the associate’s degree program. Students determine specific career goals and prepare an entry-level portfolio of professional caliber, including images from the student’s chosen field as well as work that demonstrate competence in all branches of the medium.

 

Prerequisites Passing the AA Final Assessment (Approval of the faculty committee responsible for reviewing existing work in the quarter before the portfolio course is to be taken.

 

Objectives

Review portfolio criteria.

Demonstrate mastery of all portfolio criteria.

Submit new work at weekly critiques.

Accept and competently execute assignments and resubmissions.

Select work for a portfolio with instructor input.

Obtain faculty approval for selected work.

Produce printed promotional pieces.

Complete Career Services exit interview.

Submit approved work appropriate for graduation & exhibition.

Create a professional web based portfolio.

Lab/Classroom Policies:  No food or beverages in the labs. Inappropriate use of e-mail, video games, messaging, the web, cell phones, music, or headphones, will NOT be tolerated. Be professional and constructive.

Grades:  Work will be evaluated throughout the quarter (not just the due date) for understanding of the assignment, concept/idea, depth of investigation, amount of challenge, time/effort, technical quality and overall effectiveness. Your grade will also be affected by attendance, participation during class time, participation in and preparedness for discussions, group work and other assignments, general involvement and interest. The grading scale is: A 100-93% A- 92-90% B+ 89-88% B 87-83% B- 82-80% C+ 79-78% C 77-73% C- 72-70% D+ 69% D 68% F 67% and below

 

Attendance: Attendance is mandatory. Students who accumulate a total of 4 absences in a course will be dropped from the course and a grade of W or F (withdrawn/failed) will be recorded for the course. 15+ minutes late is an absence.

 

Late work will NOT be accepted without a formal written excuse. The excuse and ALL work is due the first class back.

 

Tardiness: Don’t be late, your grade WILL be affected. Two lates will count as an absence.
