This class is a quarter long collaboration with the culinary students in the Food Styling class. Students will have Thursday shoots with the Food Styling Class; they will mainly shoot in groups and with at least two solo shoot during the quarter. Students will sign up for their solo shoot at the beginning of the quarter – a tentative schedule is included below. Prerequisites By Approval of the professors and department chairs

Grades: Work will be evaluated throughout the quarter (not just the due date) for understanding of the assignment, concept/idea, depth of investigation, amount of challenge, time/effort, technical quality and overall effectiveness. Your grade will also be affected by attendance, participation during lab time, participation in and preparedness for discussions, group work and other class assignments, as well as use of class time, general involvement and interest. Any grade below a C- will be considered a failing grade.
Attendance: Attendance is mandatory. Students who accumulate a total of 3 absences in a course will be dropped from the course and a grade of F (failed) will be recorded for the course. 5+ minutes late is an absence.
Late work will NOT be accepted without a formal written excuse. The excuse and ALL work is due the first class back.
Tardiness: Don’t be late, your grade WILL be affected. There will be no leniency.
Weekly Shoot and Submission Shoots will be in the culinary area, you will have access to a Location Lighting kit. The culinary students in Food Styling will provide all food and props. Professional quality work is expected. Be courteous, collaborate, and take direction. Turn in a CD for each shoot. Include as many of your images as you can fit. Make JPGs of the best shots for each plate or food item. Keep a record of chef you worked with and the exact name of the dish. Due Thursdays following shoots. You may need to make a separate copy for the Food Styling class. |
Photo Editor A rotating task, each student, will compile a master CD at least once during the quarter. |
Art Direction Shoot At least twice during the quarter students will pre-plan a shot. |
Personal Portfolio At the end of the quarter students will submit a personal portfolio of their best shots from the quarter. Some prints will be required. |
Presentation At the end of the quarter students will give a group presentation details TBA. |
