Assignment 1 Image Library

For this first assignment you will be collecting a library of rights free or authorized use images. These images are for you to use in future assignments and class work this quarter. Try to get a good selection of unique imagery – people as well as places, macro and micro viewpoints, and abstract as well as figurative work.

 

Scan at least 4 images. All images should be around 4” x 6” at 300 ppi, saved as tifs (include psds if you have made any alterations.)

 

Collect 10 images total (at least 4 scans) At least 2 images must be photographs (we have access to Corbis – a great image source.) At least 2 must be illustrations – drawings, prints, painting, etc... At least 2 images should be patterns or textures.

Turn a copy of your library, including your asset document on a “closed session” CD.

 

Assignment 2 Personal Style

For this assignment you will be creating a composite image of your choice in Photoshop. It must include your first and last name and NO other text. Try to make this image reflect your own personal style using color pallet, line type, composition, and subject matter.


Create an image, approximately 4” x 6” at 300 ppi in Photoshop using the techniques we have discussed in class including: Tonal Adjustments, Color Adjustments, Retouching (teeth, red eye, healing brush, etc,) Extracting, Layer Opacity, Layer Blending, Transforming Layers, Layer Effects, Selections, Brushes, and Painting Techniques.


****Your image must have at least 5 layers and include at least one adjustment layer; it must also include your first and last name.****

Assignment 3 Remix

For this assignment you will be creating a composite image using another student's Photoshop Tennis file as a beginning point. It must include their first and last name as well as your first and last name and NO other text. Try to make this image as different from the original as possible without completely changing the original elements.

 

Change the original Photoshop personal style image using the techniques we have discussed in class including: Tonal Adjustments, Color Adjustments, Retouching (teeth, red eye, healing brush, etc,) Extracting, Layer Opacity, Layer Blending, Transforming Layers, Layer Style/Effects, Selections, Brushes, Filters, Masks, Clipping Paths, and Painting Techniques.
*Remember this file should be 6” x 4” (or 4” x 6”) at 300ppi and have at least 5 layers

Assignment 4 Inspiration

For this assignment you will be creating an image using Photoshop based on a tutorial or other type of inspiration. If you pick a very simple tutorial you should consider doing another (for a total of 2 tutorials) as you will be graded on the total effort you put into this project. You will get 2 extra points if your tutorial(s) come(s) from the text book.

Assignment 5 Poster Design

For this assignment you will be creating a Poster using Photoshop.


Find an important event, or date in history to highlight in your poster. This could be an invention, discovery, or historical event. It should NOT be a poster for a current event (no band posters, advertisements, etc…) It should be interesting and informative.


Create an 11” x 17” image at 150 ppi. Using text, layers, gradients, masks, etc...

Make sure you are keeping the untouched images in a folder – you will need to include this asset folder with your assignment. As always, I expect the images to be cleared for your usage.

Assignment 6 Printing

For this assignment you will be creating an image to be printed using Photoshop.

 

Find an room or a person as inspiration for a composite composition. The goal will be to create a final printed work that can be displayed in your chosen room or by your chosen person.

 

Use the asset document (http://sarahwichlacz.com/courses/p104/resources.php) to record information about your asset images. Make sure you are keeping the untouched images in a folder – you will need to include this asset folder with your assignment. As always, I expect the images to be cleared for your usage.

 

Create an 8” x 10” image at 150 ppi to 300 ppi. Using text, layers, gradients, masks, etc...

 

Print your document at 8” x 10” in full color. Print quality matters so make sure you are using a good printer. Watch out for banding and other printing issues in your image. The print quality will effect your grade; reprint if necessary.

 

Turn in a copy of your image file as a PSD, a folder containing any of your image's assets, and your asset document. Clearly naming your layers and file with enhance your grade. As always use a “closed” CD. Make sure to include your printed image as well.

Assignment 7 Webpage or Animation

For this assignment you will be creating ONE simple webpage or TWO detailed gif animations in ImageReady.

Make sure you are keeping the untouched images in a folder – you will need to include this asset folder with your assignment. As always, I expect the images to be cleared for your usage.


Create a 600 x 800 webpage with 2 links and one roll-over OR two detailed 200 x 300 gif animations.


Turn in a copy of your image file as a PSD and a GIF. Also include any html files generated in ImageReady. Keep a folder containing any of your image's assets, and your asset document. Clearly naming your layers and file with enhance your grade. As always use a “closed” CD.

Final Project

Portfolio

For your portfolio you will need to choose your 5 strongest projects from this quarter.

 

Turn in a CD that includes all of the asset documents for your assignments. Include all of the images as PSDs, clearly title them with the assignment number.Your CD must be in a CD case and make sure to include your full name and email address.
