Shoot the following image sets as high resolution jpgs. NO FLASH
Aperture - play with depth of field. Take two images, the first with a very low f-stop and the second (same scene/focus/camera position) with a very high f-stop. Make sure to compensate with the shutter speed.
Shutter- play with movement. Take two images of the same moving object, the first with a low shutter speed and the second with a high shutter speed. Make sure to compensate with the aperture.
Lighting - play with light. Take two images of the same object/person in very different light types. (You may use flash on ONE of the 2 lighting images.)
Turn in 6 clearly labeled files (aperture_large, aperture_small, shutter_high, shutter_low, light_natural, and light_flash) Make sure the files are saved as jpegs. Put your files in a folder labeled assignment 1. Put this folder on your USB flash drive labeled with your last name and first name.
For this assignment you will be picking a single object or object type to photograph 100 to 200 times. The goal is to stretch your imagination to find unique viewpoints, interesting lighting, and new ways of seeing the world around you.
Pick an object on which to concentrate. This could be a single object, for example a pair of shoes, or an object type that can be found in many places, like a stop sign. A single object like a wine glass could be photographed in many locations, in different lights, and with many different angles. OR an object type – maybe a simple wooden chair— could be found and photographed in many different places with subtle differences in colors, textures, etc..
Shoot 100 to 200 images of ONE object or object type. Make sure you are recording in RAW.
Create contact sheets of all of your images.
Print your contact sheets- for this assignment you may print in black and white.
Turn in an assignment folder labeled BEST with your three best images saved as JPGs. Also include a PDF of your contact sheets in this folder. Save all of your RAW images in another folder labeled RAW. Put your the BEST and RAW folders into a folder labeled assignment 2. Put this folder on your USB flash drive labeled with your last name and first name. Turn in your printed contact sheets with your flashdrive.
For this assignment you will be exploring texture and light in photography. You should also remember the fundamentals of exposure (aperture and shutter) and the basic principles of composition: subject, focal point/s, rule of thirds, unity (group/pattern,) and balance (symmetrical, asymmetrical, radial.)
Shoot at least 50 images; 25+ images highlighting textures and 25+ images highlighting light. You might want to bracket your shots. Make sure to shoot as RAW.
Select and Polish 4 images with strong compositions (2 texture shots and 2 lighting shots.) You may want to adjust the images in Lightroom. Final images should be cropped to 8” x 10”
Create contact sheets that include labels with f-stop and shutter speed information. Save as a PDF.

You should also remember the fundamentals of exposure (aperture and shutter,) the basic principles of composition: subject, focal point/s, rule of thirds, unity (group/pattern,) and balance (symmetrical, asymmetrical, radial) as well as the ideas of basic lighting (diffuse and direct) and texture.
Shoot at least 50 images. Make sure to look for color contrasts as well as monochromatic compositions. You might want to bracket your shots. Remember to shoot in RAW.
Select and Polish 4 images with strong compositions (2 color complimentary shots and 2 monochromatic shots.) You may want to adjust or retouch the image in Lightroom. Final images should be cropped to 8” x 10”

You should also remember the fundamentals of exposure (aperture and shutter,) the basic principles of composition: subject, focal point/s, rule of thirds, unity (group/pattern,) and balance (symmetrical, asymmetrical, radial) as well as the ideas of basic lighting (diffuse and direct,) texture, and color (complementary and monochromatic.)
Shoot at least 60 images. Decide on a single topic or theme on which to focus.
Select and Polish your 4 strongest images. You might want to show these as a series. You may want to adjust or retouch the image in Lightroom or Photoshop. Final images may be cropped to 8” x 10” at approximately 300 ppi.
Create contact sheets that include labels with f-stop and shutter speed information. Save as a PDF.
Print your most successful image in full color at approximately 8” x 10” or larger.

Shoot at least 60 images. Decide on a single topic or theme on which to focus.
Select and Polish your 3 strongest images. You may want to adjust or retouch the image in Lightroom or Photoshop. Final images should be cropped to 8” x 10” at approximately 300 ppi.

You should remember the fundamentals of exposure (aperture and shutter,) the basic principles of composition: subject, focal point/s, rule of thirds, unity (group/pattern,) and balance (symmetrical, asymmetrical, radial) as well as the ideas of basic lighting (diffuse and direct,) texture, color (complementary and monochromatic,) motion, and portraiture.
Shoot at least 50 images and create contact sheets.
Select and Alter a 3 photographs in some way. You could use Photoshop, pen and ink, paint, collage, etc...; let your imagination run wild.
Turn in the final 8” x 10” print versions of your 3 altered photographs and your printed contact sheets.
For the final project in this course you will be creating a photographic series of your choice. You should remember the fundamentals of exposure (aperture and shutter,) the basic principles of composition: subject, focal point/s, rule of thirds, unity (group/pattern,) and balance (symmetrical, asymmetrical, radial) as well as the ideas of basic lighting (diffuse and direct,) texture, color (complementary and monochromatic,) motion, time, portrait, and Photoshop techniques.
Shoot at least 100 images for your series.
Select and Polish your 3 strongest images. You may want to adjust or retouch the images in Lightroom or Photoshop. Final images should be cropped to 8” x 10."
Print your 3 images at 8” x 10” -- full color, high quality. Print contract sheets of all your preliminary shots.
Mat your strongest print in the 8” x 10” window in an 11” x 14” mat. Use white or black 4 ply mat board to make a centered window mat (you can use any ply mat for the back mat.) Use photo corners place your image and cloth or archival tape to hinge the window
Type a single paragraph statement about your series
Turn in your three printed images – one print matted, contact sheets, and typed statement.
For your portfolio you will need to choose your ten to twenty strongest images from the class; the images must be shot this quarter, but don't need to have been used in an assignment.
Select and Polish the 10-20 strongest images. You may want to make minor adjusts or retouch the images in PhotoShop. Final images DO NOT need be cropped to 8” x 10” but must be approx 300 ppi.
Turn your images in as JPGs on MAC and PC compatible CD. Your CD must be in a CD case; include your full name and email address.
