Action- an image in which the composition emphasizes motion or active subject matter.
Alternative Process or Film- Non-standard (at AiW) photographic processes including all chemical processes, unique printing, mixed media, etc...
Editorial - an image with a narrative quality that could be found in the editorial section of a newspaper, magazine, book, internet site or other publication where content including fact or fiction based stories, and opinions is placed – separate from advertising.
Food- Food and Food Preparation; an image that features food related items.
Conceptual- an image in which primary emphasis is a concept or idea.
Action- an image in which the composition emphasizes motion or active subject matter.
Landscape – an image that comprises of the visible features of an area of land, including: cityscapes, seascapes, etc...
Lighting- an image that utilizes lighting in a directed and sophisticated manner (natural or created.)
Location – an image shot outside the studio; in natural surroundings or an outdoor setting (shots may come from Location or Photojournalism courses.)
Manipulation an image that has been composited, manipulated, or retouched.
Photojournalism- A news image that is timely, objective, and narrative.
Pictorial - an image that expresses beauty, tension, harmony, chaos and other abstract concepts through composition, tonal and color relationships.
Portrait – an image of a person that describes the unique features of an individual.
Product- Commercially available product in an image intended to sell.
Spaces- A physical element that can be viewed in the following sub-categories ranging from city, sea, river, nature, landscape, aerial, architecture, and interiors.
Still-Life – an image depicting inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural or man-made.
Student Choice – any image of the student's choice.
Studio – an image shot inside the studio.
Technical – an image that has a degree of technical difficulty in the camera moment, lighting, post production, or output.
